An annual event hosted by BCU, the BCU Coffs TRI has garnered a reputation for its scenic location, gorgeous surroundings, and its world-class course, effectively making this event one of the most anticipated on the national Triathlon calendar. While actively encouraging a healthy lifestyle for its many participants, the triathlon consists of events catering towards all age groups, and simultaneously offers competitors with an opportunity to participate in the BCU Coffs Standard Distance, which is also known as the NSW State Championship Race, to determine the best triathletes in NSW.

History:

Towards the latter half of the year 2012, BCU announced that it would become the headline sponsor of the BCU Coffs TRI triathlon, which was scheduled to be launched in March 2013. Proceeding this decision, many bore witness to a surge in the triathlon’s popularity, which eventually piqued the interest of potential participants.
Having consisted of many challenges, new personal bests, and two new winners, with a record number attendance and a sold-out main event, the 2018 triathlon has been the most successful of its predecessors, prompting many to anticipate the next triathlon, which is said to be one of the most promising events of 2019.

Schedule:

Presently, it has been announced that the BCU Coffs Kids TRI and the BCU Coffs Enticer are scheduled to commence and conclude on Saturday, the 02nd of March 2019. On the other hand, the BCU Coffs TRI – Standard Distance will occur on the following day, the 03rd of March 2019, which is a Sunday. All of the aforementioned events will unfold at the Jordan Esplanade, Coffs Harbour, New South Wales.

It is important to note that the participants of all events are required to pay a registration fee, which varies depending on the event.

Events.

As of November 2018, details regarding the Kids Triathlon remain undisclosed to the general public, however, the other two events have been separated into several courses, as displayed below:

BCU Coffs Enticer (ages 13-15, and 16+):
Swim: 300m of open water swimming in a protected harbour.
Cycle: 7km in a 2-lap course on a fully closed road, out along Jordan Esplanade to the southern break wall, and a return to the starting point.
Run: 2km in a 2-lap course around the Coffs Jetty Foreshores.

Proceeding the completion of the BCU Coffs Enticer, presentations are expected to begin at approximately 4.15pm, and as the timed event is non-competitive, prizes will be determined by randomized prize draws open to all competitors.

BCU Coffs TRI – Standard Distance:
– Swim: 1500m of open water swimming in a protected harbour.
– Cycle: 40km in a 2-lap course on a fully closed road, out along Hogbin Drive to Toormina, and a return to the starting point.
– Run: 10km in a flat, 2-lap course out to the southern break wall and along the Coffs Jetty.

It is important to note that the Standard Distance consists of multiple divisions into several categories. Participants may compete as male teams, female teams, or mixed teams, with an age group division as follows:
15 – 19 years, 20 – 24 years, 25 – 29 years, 30 – 34 years, 35 – 39 years, 40 – 44 years, 45 – 49 years, 50 – 54 years, 55 – 59 years, 60 – 64 years, 65 – 69 years, 70 – 74 years, 75 -79 years, 80+

Awards

Proceeding the completion of the Standard Distance triathlon, the award ceremony will commence at 11.30am, and the overall male and female winners that have secured the first, second, and third places will receive prizes of $1000, $750, and $500 respectively.

Previous Winners:

The conclusion of the 2018 event led to the announcement of Harry Jones’ victory in the BCU Coffs Triathlon – Standard Distance, with a timing of one hour, 56 minutes and 42 seconds. However, he was unable to beat the previous race record, which was set by Ryan Fisher in 2017, who had completed the entire course in one hour, 47 minutes and 48 seconds. In the team event of the Standard Distance, team North Coast Swim Academy were triumphant, and had completed their courses in one hour and 57 minutes.

On the other hand, the Enticer Distance Triathlon was won by Nathan Dortmann, who finished the course with a timing of 23 minutes and 44 seconds. Proceeding this, Cove Zimmer emerged victorious in the Kids 6-7 Aquathlon, and Daniel Williams occupied the first place in the Kids 8-10 Triathlon, while the Kids 11-12 Triathlon was won by Jasper Sumsky.
